RECAP

‘Honest’ John Dobson gets bragging rights in today’s Pot Limit Omaha High-Only event.  The law student at nearby Stetson University was the chip leader when he and Derek Bowers decided to end their heads-up match and call it a night.  They each collected $4,650 in an even chop.

Dobson, shown in his winner’s photo with friend and ‘life coach’ Nick Persico, played Hockey in college and that’s where he learned to play poker.  “I was always the first one out in the sit-n-gos,” he admitted.  That spurred him to improve his game.  He’s been playing for about ten years now and has started to book some tournament results in the last couple of years.  He’s mostly a PLO cash game player and the St. Petersburg resident hits the felt here in Tampa about once a week.

This one-day event began at 3pm and wrapped up just under twelve hours later.   There were 59 entries, which didn’t quite cover the  $15,000 guarantee on the total prize pool.  That means the prize pool was exactly $15,000 and it was paid out to the final six players.

The final table of this event was a perfect example of what an equalizer poker can be.  Donna Blevins, a poker mindset coach, was the oldest player at the final table at 66 years of age.  She finished in 6th place.  Also at the final table was 19-year-old Derek Whorley, who busted out in 7th place on the bubble.

3nd – Ravi Ande  $2,100
